SUMMARY:Field Trip on Forestry Basics with Dave Mertz in Black Hills
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, October 18\, 9:00 a.m. – noon \nForestry Basics Field Trip – back by popular demand! \nwith retired BHNF Natural Resource Staff Officer\, Dave Mertz  \nJoin us for a field trip to learn about Forestry and see examples of prescribed burning\, thinning\, and overstory removal. This is great opportunity to understand terminology and concepts that guide forest management. These will be illustrated with real life examples on the Black Hills National Forest. Dave retired from the Black Hills National Forest in 2017 as the forest’s natural resource staff officer. Over the course of his career\, he was a forester\, silviculturist\, forest fire management officer and a fire staff officer. \nForests live beyond the confines of our own lifetimes!\nMeet at 9:00 at the Mickelson Trailhead in Hill City. The Trailhead is in Tracy Park on S.
