Cherry Stem Parking Project Comment Deadline- near agate beds at BGNG,NNF

May 30 @ 11:50 pm - 11:59 pm

Deadline for scoping comments on proposed parking lots near agate beds BGNG,NNF is May 30th

Buffalo Gap National Grassland’s Cherry Stem Parking Project Scoping

Use of a categorical exclusion is planned.

Forest Service writes:

“The purpose of this project is to designate parking areas near high-use recreation sites. The need that is driving this project is to reduce resource damage due to off-road vehicle use and improve the safety of recreational users.”

“The Fall River Ranger District is proposing to install structural guides or boundaries to designate two parking areas along Forest Service Road 7055 (Figure 1). Structural guides could include, but are not limited to, buck and rail fences, wire fences, boulders, gravel pads, signage, or other means deemed necessary to delineate the parking areas. The preferred method includes the installation of buck and rail fences to reduce ground disturbance. Gaps left in the fencing would allow ease of access for visitors. Two separate locations are included in the proposed action. These locations already exhibit user-created parking areas. The southern parking area is located along Forest Service Road 7055 as it meets the boundary between the Sheep Camp Pasture and French Creek Campground exclosure. The second is located at the end of FSR 7055. “

“Comments may be submitted by email to SM.FS.NNFG_Comment@usda.gov (preferred method). Written comments may also be submitted to the Fall River Ranger District, Attn: Cherry Stem Parking Project Lead, Fall River Ranger District, 1801 Highway 18 Bypass, Hot Springs SD 57747. Thank you for your interest in the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands, Buffalo Gap National Grassland. To be most helpful, please respond with comments specific to this proposal by May 30th, 2025. “
