Forestry Basics Field Trip with Dave Mertz – Fri., November 14th, Black Hills

November 14 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

FORESTRY BASICS FIELD TRIP WITH DAVE MERTZ – Fri., November 14th (contingent on weather),- meeting at 9 am at Sugar Shack on Hwy 385.

Every fall Dave  Mertz, a forester, retired from the Black Hills National Forest (BHNF), leads us on a field trip in the Black Hills to learn about forestry basics and the BHNF logging program. Prairie Hills Audubon Society, the Norbeck Society and sometimes the Black Hills Group of Sierra Club co-sponsor this annual field trip.

The field trip will involve some areas not previously seen on previous field trips. It may involve a timber sale/s where the logging has not yet begun. With the Trump Administration, there have been many changes to how the Forest Service manages its timber sales, and these will be discussed. Contact Dave Mertz at mertzdave1@gmail.com or (605) 440-3244 for details, Also Nancy at 605-787-6466, phas.wsd@rapidnet.com
