Quote from NDN alert:
“FACTS ABOUT THE PROJECT:
- The Chord Project alone seeks to drill 38 holes up to 750 feet deep.
- Violations of treaty rights of the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868 and religious freedom apply here.
- The vibrations from the drilling could risk the petroglyphs fracturing off the canyon wall.
- Each hole is a potential conduit of pollution to the watershed, forever
- 24-hour lights, noise, and dust, 5-7 days a week
- Loss of recreational, historical, and ceremonial lands
- Clear-cutting of trees and vegetation at each of the 17 drill pads is required for this project
- Drilling mud pits are full of barium, toxic to all life forms
- In March 2026, thousands of people in the Ȟe Sápa submitted public comments in opposition to this uranium mining project.
- Archaeological and paleoenvironmental investigations in Craven Canyon indicate that there is still much to be learned about post-Pleistocene deposits and human activities.
- Much of the area north of Craven Canyon along what is known as Long Mountain has yet to be surveyed and likely contains additional archeological discoveries.”
“This Canadian company is coming from thousands of miles away to destroy our earth and threaten our water, with no consequence to their own homelands – we need to keep them out of our sacred Black Hills,” said Alex White Plume, Grandfather and former vice president and president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. “The Black Hills legally belong to the Sioux through a treaty that has never been respected because they thought they could buy us off. Well, we’re here to say the Black Hills are not for sale. We will continue to fight for Craven Canyon and all our land so we can practice the ceremonies we’ve had since time immemorial.”
We don’t know how long the webinar lasts but guessed at 2 hours
