Visit to Beaver Dam Analog Project in Green Gulch, Northern Hills

July 19, 2025 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm

Visit to Beaver Dam Analog Project  (BDA) Sites in Green Gulch, Northern Hills and learn about beaver dam analogs (BDA).

July 19th is a group visit to show beaver dam analogs built in Green Gulch over several years  by volunteers and the Forest Service and Black Hills Fly Fishers.  This is an ongoing project; more BDA get built every year by volunteers.

Folks are to meet at Dakota Angler Outfitter on 1010 Jackson Blv at 9:30 am  and a caravan from there will drive to Green Gulch. Bill Young of Black Hills Fly Fishers can send a map on request or view map at the top of this notice –  Bill Young <guinnessmarsh@gmail.com>- ‭‭‭(605) ‭‭‭391-1002

We are not sure how long this event will be, but we suspect at least 3 or 4 hours.

PHAS strongly supports the efforts to recover beaver in SD, including building BDAs. We urge members to join in helping build BDA and learn how to construct them.

Instructions from Rapid City area:

“Basically The route is Highway 44 to 385. Turn left on the Custer crossing road. And follow that to Minnesota Ridge Road. Left on Minnesota Ridge continue until you see pink flagging and you’ll take a slight right into Green Gulch.”
